This one day conference is ideal for health professionals and staff working with frail older adults in long term care, assisted living, and adult day programs.

Purpose

  • To provide the latest information and research to ensure effective, evidence-based programming
  • To provide opportunities for and encourage participation in a variety of practical workshops
  • To offer simple tools and strategies for providing the best possible care and programming for residents and clients

Morning Workshops

Practical Applications of Top Evidence-Based Research Articles – Start the day off with a look at recent evidence-based research articles on Restorative Care and Nursing Rehab practices and learn about practical applications of these studies. Make sense of the research and put it into practice.

Ministry Guidelines for LTC – This session will provide an overview of the long-term care ministry guidelines related to functional and resident assessment measures and will offer suggestions to ensure that your facility meets the ministry standards for restorative care and nursing rehabilitation.

Pole-Walking from Fit-to-Frail – Learn about the benefits of pole-walking for all levels of functional mobility, including the different types of poles and appropriate uses and training techniques. Enjoy a poling demonstration and maybe even try them yourself!

New CCAA 3-tiered Exercise Program – Learn about a new template of exercise programs for functional mobility. The CCAA is working to develop a new exercise model that could be implemented into LTC settings, retirement care, and adult day programs, and includes progressive exercise recommendations for all levels.

Activity Bursts – Mini activity sessions have been built right into the conference – chair exercise and balance exercise sessions to get active throughout the day and learn new exercises to incorporate into your programs – come dressed to be active.

Balls for Strength, Balance and Flexibility (BALL) – This workshop introduces fitness leaders to inexpensive training equipment that can be used to enhance the strength, balance, and flexibility components of existing seniors’ fitness programs. Participants receive a small exercise ball and learn to incorporate them into exercise classes for higher and lower functioning older adults. Learn more and register for BALL.

Home Support Exercise Program (HSEP) – This workshop teaches an evidence-based in-home exercise program designed to enhance and maintain functional fitness, mobility, and balance, for frail older adults. This workshop is designed for caregivers and support staff working with independently living, lower functioning older adults. Learn more and register for HSEP.

Functional Activity Measures (FAM) – Participants in this workshop gain skills and knowledge in conducting functional fitness assessments of older adults using a combination of lecture and active teaching strategies. This specialized workshop will be tailored to assessments for frail older adults that can be implemented in LTC settings, retirement care, and adult day programs. Learn more and register for FAM.
